PROJECT TYPE: INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY PROJECT
LOCATION: PERTH, AUSTRALIA
PARTNER: BKK ARCHITECTS
FUNDER: SELF FUNDED
CLIENT: KUDITJ PTY LTD
A new cultural centre housing a studio for Perth’s only indigenous radio station.

Architects Without Frontiers and Network Partner BKK Architects are working with the indigenous-owned community education, training and economic empowerment organisation Kuditj to develop a centre for music, dance, visual arts and First Nations culture in the heart of Perth.

The centre will include recording studios, newsroom and podcase space for Noongar Radio 100.9fm.  Noongar Radio is the only Indigenous radio station in the Perth metropolitan region and provides a voice to the Noongar people, other First Nations communities in Perth and non-Indigenous community members.

The centre will be based in the Aboriginal Advancement Council of Western Australia’s headquarters, a building with a significant history for Noongar people as a base through the Perth ’Prohibited Area’ period and a venue for dances and concerts by local and overseas artists.

BKK Architects bring a strong understanding of community radio as part of a broader portfolio of public, infrastructural, residential, cultural, and educational projects.
