The dreaming project – shortlisted for the 2024 ArchitectureAu Award for Social Impact

A space for women to gather, trade, be safe and gain a livelihood!

Stage 1 of the Cakaudrove Women’s Resource Centre in Savusavu, Fiji, by Architects Without Frontiers, has been shortlisted for the 2024 ArchitectureAu Award for Social Impact.

The CWRC or A I Taadra - Dreaming project includes the design, construction, and landscaping of a Great Hall in Savusavu, on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji.

The Great Hall building was completed in 2018 and AWF Network Partners ajc architects, Tract Consultants, Webber Design Pty Ltd and quantity surveyor Slattery are currently working on designs for Stage 2 which will include offices, classrooms, accommodation and a teaching kitchen, as well as a ceremonial ground, lovo pit and native nursery.

Funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Stage 1 was a collaborative project between the rural women of Cakaudrove - Soqosoqo Vakamarama i Taukei ni Cakaudrove (SVTC) and Architects Without Frontiers.

The ArchitectureAu Award for Social Impact recognises projects that promote the common good. It has been conceived to reward practice that preference empathy or aesthetics, extending the spatial possibilities of architecture to advance the discipline and empowers its users.
