Project Description: Design and develop a proposal for a childrens disability centre in Hoi An, Vietnam.

Status: Final Design will be developed in June 2008 and a strategy for funding project for construction in early 2009.

Unfortunately a site has still not been secured. A scoping document is being prepared as the final phase of the RMIT elective, and this will be used by Lifestart to secure funding to buy the land needed to complete this project.

Summary: AWF Director Esther Charlesworth led a group of RMIT students to Hoi An in June 2007. The students formed part of a group of 120 staff and students who travelled to Vietnam, as part of RMIT’s 120th year (2007) programme of events. They designed a prototype building to provide shelter from annual typhoons for rural teenagers seeking employment and training in Hoi An.

The 2nd stage of this project saw a group of 8 RMIT students travel to Hoi An in July 2008 to refine and develop the design.
