Architects without Frontiers - working with four Australian Indigenous Communities

Architect Victoria - Winter 2010 Publication

This issue of the AIA Victorian chapter journal wasfocussed on introducing the Architecture profession to the Chapter Reconciliation Action Plan as well as confirming a commitment to the meaningful engagement of the profession with the Indigenous community in Victoria and Interstate. As part of this, the work of local practices and organisations already working with Indigenous communities locally and across Australia is highlighted. This includes a two page article outlining 4 Australian Indigenous Communty projects that AWF has worked on in the last 7 years. These projects include an Elder's House, Two Arts Centres at Maningrida and Oenpeli along with a Business Centre and a Cultural Centre in Wadeye.

Through all of these projects AWF has sought to develop capacity within its community partners and assist Indigenous communities in achieving their own identified and tangible objectives. All of the projects rely on promoting respect and understanding between cultures and promoting knowledge and skills sharing between the partners.
