The Society for Indigenous Women of the Cakaudrove Province, Fiji (Soqosoqo Vakamarama i Taukei ni Cakaudrove, SVTC), recently held a workshop in The Great Hall with Habitat for Humanity to discuss Phase Two of the Ra-Marama Culture and Information Hub. The women were asked to write down their hopes for the centre. One of the responses reads:
A place of rest from long distance travel and boat transfers.
A women/family stopover.
A meeting place.
An education and information centre.
A source of income from selling such things as handcrafted items.
The Hub is a collaborative project between the women of Cakaudrove and Architects Without Frontiers Australia. The pictured ceiling mats are made by local women with pandanus leaves from the Yasawa district.
